Event Details

In collaboration with Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct and in observance of New York State History Month, this Saturday morning event will offer a tour of NYPL to view original stones from the Distributing Reservoir that now form part of the Library's foundation.  The Library was built on the site of an above-ground reservoir that distributed clean water to homes and businesses in the lower parts of the city between 1842 and 1890.  Aqueduct historian, Tom Tarnowsky, will show a short film and share his knowledge about the history of drinking water in New York City.  In addition, selected material from the Library's Manuscripts and Archives Division will be on view as participants will be invited to critically engage with New York City history.
