As scams take on new forms and employ novel methods and tactics, more than ever, you must be an educated, savvy consumer. Are you thinking about scam avoidance, cyber safety and ID theft prevention in your daily behavior and choices? An array of consumer scams have dramatically increased, many bolstered by Artificial Intelligence technology. ID theft also remains one of the most common crimes to strike consumers, taking on new forms that may be more difficult to detect and correct. Before falling prey to this new array of consumer scams, educate yourself, look for the key red flags and know what to avoid. If you are victimized, know the key steps to minimize the damage. This important program is presented by Brian Rauer,Executive Director of the Mid-Hudson (NY) BBB and General Counsel of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York.

About The Presenter:

 

Brian Rauer

 

Brian Rauer is Executive Director of the Mid-Hudson (NY) BBB and General Counsel of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. Earlier experience includes the Manhattan based law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe, P.C. Mr. Rauer serves as Chair of the Westchester County Consumer Advisory Council and was formerly on the Administrative Law Judge/Hearing Officer roster for the Westchester County Human Rights Commission. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the NY County Lawyers’ Assn. (NYCLA) and in the House of Delegates of the NY State Bar Association. He is past Chair of the NYCLA Cyberspace Law Committee. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the NY State Dispute Resolution Assn. and the Board of Directors of the Association for Conflict Resolution-Greater NY Chapter. Mr. Rauer formerly hosted/presented a regular business/consumer tips segment on a nationally syndicated radio show, provides consumer-business tips for media outlets and has presented an extensive array of programs on hot topics of public interest, including cyber security, identity theft prevention, privacy, scam avoidance, customer service/retention, advertising pitfalls, and ethical business practices. He is a Magna Cum Laude & Order of the Coif graduate of Tulane Law School, receiving the Tulane Law Dean's Medal. Mr. Rauer earned his B.S. degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Business Administration, with a concentration in finance & management.
