Key Infrastructure Improvements for Two Harlem Branches Of The New York Public Library

125th Street Library Scheduled to Reopen October 15 Following Infrastructure Enhancements; Aguilar Library to Close November 3 for Similar Upgrades

September 22, 2014: Two Harlem branches of The New York Public Library are receiving infrastructure renovations to better serve neighborhood users: 125th Street Library and Aguilar Library.

The 125th Street Library, which is scheduled to reopen October 15, has undergone upgrades to its heating and cooling system, as well as improvements to its ventilation system and fire detection and prevention system. The branch closed late last year to facilitate these needed modernizations.

The $1.3 million project was part of a bundle of four HVAC projects funded by the Mayor, the City Council, and the City Council Speaker.

Aguilar Library will close temporarily on November 3 to receive new equipment needed for the heating and cooling of the library – such as air conditioning units, hot water pumps, as well as a new, web-based temperature control system. The existing fire stairs will also be refurbished and a new fire detection and alarm system will be installed.  The branch is expected to reopen in summer 2015.

The $970,000 project is being funded by the Mayor.

During construction at Aguilar Library, patrons can use the Library’s 96th Street location at 112 East 96th Street or the reopened 125th Street location at 224 East 125th Street. All items on hold at Aguilar Library will be delivered to the 125th Street until the renovation is completed.
