53rd Street Library Interior
The 53rd Street branch of The New York Public Library, opened on June 27, 2016, is a bright, inviting oasis of books and learning in the center of Midtown Manhattan.
The 53rd Street Library was designed by award-winning architects at TEN Arquitectos. The branch is just steps away from The Museum of Modern Art, creating the opportunity for collaborative programs, events, and educational opportunities between the two spaces.
The branch’s collection includes large-print, paperbacks, and popular fiction; nonfiction for adults, teens, and children; and DVDs and CDs. The 53rd Street Library also provides 68 computers, including 46 laptops. The branch also features state-of- the-art program spaces for up to 120 occupants, plus a Children’s Room and Teen Zone.

Information about Environmental Remediation Projects in Your Community
Brownfields are properties where redevelopment is complicated by actual or suspected environmental contamination from past land usage. Because of New York City's long industrial history, brownfields are found in areas throughout the five boroughs. The New York City Office of Environmental Remediation offers programs that encourage environmental investigation of lightly-to-moderately contaminated sites, and that oversee clean up appropriate to a site's new end use. Information about these projects is available below:
