General Health

DRS Substance Abuse Resources

A comprehensive listing of every addiction service available in your state. People can search by county or city, and have access to all the 70+ types of services we cover in our database such as treatment, prevention services, language-specific services, & age-specific services. The main goal of the site is to help people who are affected by addiction and provide information to help with the prevention of substance abuse.

Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center

Individuals aged 10–24 years old can receive free and confidential services at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. Individuals can receive free primary care, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, social services, dental, optical, health education, and prescriptions.  Additionally, they have specialized services for LGBTQ youth, teen parents, people who are HIV positive, young people dealing with trauma, and more.

NYC Care

A health care access program that guarantees low-cost and no-cost services to New Yorkers who do not qualify for or cannot afford health insurance. All NYC Care services are provided through NYC Health + Hospitals. You can get a unique membership card to access health services, choose your own doctor, and get affordable medications.

Pandemic Benefits Guidance

Benefits to help you buy groceries, get health care, or get financial support to make up for lost income. See what support you might be eligible for at access.nyc.gov/pandemic-benefits-guidance. 

Queer Detainee Empowerment Project

Assists folks coming out of immigration detention in securing structural, health/wellness, educational, legal, and emotional support and services. The Queer Detainee Empowerment Project (QDEP) works to organize around the structural barriers and state violence that LGBTQIA TS & GNC detainee/undocumented folks face related to their immigration status, race, sexuality, and gender expression/identity.

Take Charge with MyChart

Learn how to use the MyChart app to access your medical history online, schedule and attend virtual doctor's visits, refill prescriptions, and more. Sign up for a free Take Charge with MyChart class at the Library. 

Unemployment Healthcare Coverage

If you’re unemployed you may be able to get an affordable health insurance plan through the Marketplace, with savings based on your income and household size. You may also qualify for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

 


 

Mental Health Resources

Mobile Crisis Teams

A group of health professionals, such as nurses, social workers, and psychiatrists, can provide mental health services, primarily in people's homes. There are about two dozen teams in the city, and they are available in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Provides round-the-clock free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. Call 1-800-273-8255 or 1-800-779-4889 (Deaf or hard of hearing). Para servicio en español, llame al 1-888-628-9454.

NYC Well

NYC Well is a 24/7 confidential helpline for all mental health and substance misuse services in New York City. Call 888-NYC-WELL (888-692-9355), text “WELL” to 65173, or chat online. NYC Well is here to listen and help with problems like stress, depression, anxiety, or drug and alcohol use. For you or someone that you care for. Trained counselors are available to provide support with interpreters available for 200+ languages. The NYC Well website also contains a list of apps and online tools to help you manage your health and emotional wellbeing.

NY Project Hope

New York’s COVID-19 emotional support helpline to help residents understand their reactions and emotions during COVID-19. Talking to them is free, confidential, and anonymous. 

Trevor Project

Focused on helping LGBTQ youth, this nonprofit provides access to counselors by phone (call 1-866-488-7386), online chat, or text (text START to 678678). They also provide an online community for LGBTQ youth ages 13–24.

Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School 

COVID-19 community resources for migrant communities in NYC. An initiative created by students Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School in New York City to facilitate the search for resources by migrant communities in this time of crisis, and to help disseminate initiatives dedicated to supporting migrant communities in the city.
