Founded in 1851, The New York Times is one of the most circulated newspapers in the United States and at the New York Public Library. This class will teach you how to access the newspaper in all its available formats including digital content (database), print, and in microfilm. While we will focus on the New York Times, the tips shared in this session will be applicable to other newspaper titles in the Library's collections. By the end of this class, you will be able to:

  • Conduct a basic search in The New York Times database
  • Be able to refine your research using advanced search features
  • Find a specific edition of The New York Times
  • Discover how and where to access the newspaper's different formats e.g., print, microfilm or digitally
  • Become familiar with the process of creating a list and saving it in The New York Times database

In the last 30 minutes of class, you will have the opportunity to do individual research or speak one-on-one with a librarian about your research.  A limited number of laptops will be available for use; attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptops to the class to access our resources.
